Overview
Fare Trade Coffee was begun in 2003, and its name is indicative of how each new product line was brought to market--each of the coffees were first imported for the price of air fare to the country of origin. Until the business grew enough to purchase bulk quantities of coffee to ship in sea faring containers, the coffee was transported in small quantities in the luggage of willing passengers who had already purchased their airfare. The company's name is further indicative of the fair and just prices paid to the farmers from whom the coffee is directly purchased. Read about how the lives of certain farming families have been improved through the direct purchase of coffee, usually at double the local market rate, on our page entitled "The Farmers". |
